It came to mind this week after the unfortunate experience of having my wallet stolen last weekend. I got to thinking about my loss… In the wallet was my driver’s license, Health Insurance card, a few credit and debit cards – all these had to be cancelled and replaced. Missing too were 2 $50 gift cards, a Starbucks card and about $40 in cash. A disappointing event, a regrettable nuisance but in the Big Scheme of Things, not devastating. In fact, I realized that really all of what I had lost were ‘things’. I could replace them and carry on with my life, with my ‘person’ intact. In fact, in today’s material world, it was actually good to be forced to be reminded that I am not my belongings. Who I am, what is inside of me and what I have to contribute is ultimately my true value.
What are you most grateful for? What riches lie within your soul and are you making use of them?
